Card Printing Basics
Everything You Need to Know About Custom Card Printing
Welcome to the fundamentals of premium custom card printing. This guide covers the core concepts, file setup, and production principles that ensure your Tarot, Poker, Affirmation, and Flash Cards turn out sharp, consistent, and retail-ready.
How Custom Card Printing Works
The custom card printing process follows a structured workflow designed to maintain quality and accuracy from start to finish.
First, you submit your print-ready artwork, which our team reviews for proper bleed, safe zones, resolution, and color format. Once approved, we provide a digital proof for you to confirm layout, colors, and text. If you place a bulk printing order, we will provide you with a free physical sample proof to ensure the final printed product meets your expectations before full-scale production.
After final approval, your cards go through offset or digital printing, depending on the quantity and finish selection. Cards are then cut, rounded, laminated, or enhanced with foil stamping, edge gilding, or embossing.
Finally, each deck is assembled, packed in your chosen custom packaging, and prepared for shipping. Understanding each step helps you plan timelines, set expectations, and avoid delays in your project.

Bleed & Safe Zone Guidelines
Bleed and safe zones are the most critical elements of proper artwork setup, they ensure no important design or text gets cut off during production.
Bleed Area
Bleed is the extra space around the edge of your card that extends past the final cut line. We require a 3mm bleed on all sides. This prevents white edges from showing if the cut shifts slightly during production.
Safe Zone
The safe zone is an inner margin where all essential text, logos, and important graphics should stay. We recommend a 3mm safe margin from the final trim line. Keeping content within this area ensures nothing is too close to the edge or at risk of being cut.
Following these guidelines guarantees clean, professional results every time.

Color Management for Premium Printing
Color consistency is what separates high-quality decks from standard ones. Proper color management ensures your design looks the same on screen as it does in print.
All files must be submitted in CMYK color mode, not RGB. RGB is designed for digital screens and can appear much brighter and more saturated, which often leads to unexpected dullness or color shift in printed cards.
If you are only able to provide RGB files, our team will do our best to convert them into print-ready CMYK files and match the original colors as closely as possible. Please note that some color difference is still unavoidable during the conversion process.
For metallic finishes like gold foil, silver foil, or spot colors, separate channels are required to ensure accurate placement. Please design these elements on a separate layer or save them in a separate dedicated file, and they must not appear duplicated within your main print artwork.

We also recommend avoiding extremely bright neon colors, as they cannot be perfectly matched with standard CMYK printing.
Our team reviews all color profiles before production and will alert you to any potential issues to ensure vibrant, true-to-design results.
